Mr Nowell qualified in medicine at the University of Liverpool in 1995. He underwent basic surgical training in London on the Hammersmith Hospitals rotation before completing higher specialist training in cardiac surgery on the West London rotation.
During his specialist training Mr Nowell obtained a prestigious British Heart Foundation Fellowship research grant. He submitted his doctoral thesis to the University of London which led to the award of MD (Research). He won a Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland Scholarship to the Cleveland Clinic, USA in 2010.
Mr Nowell worked as a Locum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at St Thomas’ Hospital in London before commencing his substantive position at St George’s Hospital in 2012.
Mr Nowell specialises in the full range of adult cardiac surgery including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), Aortic, Mitral and Tricuspid valve surgery.
